KeywordsDevil’s Elbow State Park, geology, paleontology, paleosciences, sediments, volcanism, Yachats Basalt
NotesThe Yachats Basalt is not a uniform mass of volcanic material. Rather, it is inter-bedded with sedimentary deposits, many of which are fossiliferous. The environment in which these volcanic and sedimentary deposits were laid down is discussed. Uses Devil’s Elbow as an example site. Includes a schematic diagram of an idealized representative vertical sequence. The Eugene Formation of the Willamette Valley and the Western Cascades is also discussed. BW photographs.
